Its founder was Mr Matyas Szamos – a master confectioner who has been connected with marzipan production since 1935.The company was a small family venture, but they have grown since the change of the political system, and now employ 200-250 people. They produce 60 % of Hungarian marzipan production. In 1996 they used 120 tons of almonds – to produce 500 tons of marzipan products, and 200 tons of other confectioneries. This resulted in sales of USD four billion. The most popular product of the company are marzipan desserts filled with sour cherry in brandy, which was an idea of Mr Mátyás Szamos – from these two million are sold each year. The company exports 25 % of their products – especially to Western Europe, through an Austrian wholesaler.
